Shilale

Šilale [8] [9] ( lit. Šilalė , jam . Šėlalė , Polish. Szyłele ; obsolete. Илilele [2] , илileli [3] ) - a city in western Lithuania, is the administrative center of the Šilalė district ( Tauragsky county ) and two headquarters ( Traksed and Shilalsky rural ), also has the status of urban headman ( syanuni , lit. Šilalės miesto seniūnija ) [1] [4] .

General characteristics

The city of Shilale is located in the upper reaches of the Lokista River, at the place where the left tributary of Ashutis flows into it. On the Ashutis River within the city there is a reservoir [10] [11] .

The city has two churches, there are several gas stations, pharmacies, schools, two banking branches, a museum, a hospital, a post office (LT-75001), a library [12] .

History

Historical sources first mentioned under 1533 [14] .

In Soviet times, a sewing factory and an oil factory existed in the city [15] .

The first emblem of the city was created in 1968. The current version of the coat of arms was officially approved in 2001 [16] .

Administrative submission:
Prior to World War I, it had the status of a township and was part of the Rossiensky district of the Koven province [2] [3] .

In 1950, Shilale became the administrative center of Shilal district.

January 31, 1952 received the status of a city [14] .
