Tula orthohantavirus

Tula orthohantavirus (Eng.) , Formerly Tula virus , is a type of virus from the Hantaviridae family of the Bunyavirales order. It is widespread in Central Russia, although cases of infection have also been recorded in Switzerland and Germany [4] . In humans, the virus causes hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome , although the disease often proceeds in a very mild form.

The virus was discovered by Russian biologist Alexander Plyusnin in 1987 in Tula [5] . Further studies showed that about 10% of the entire vole population (including in Europe) is infected with this virus [6] . In 2017, due to the separation of the Bunyavirales order and the revision of the Hantavirus genus, the name of the species was changed, as in most other taxa related to the order [2] .

The natural reservoir of Tula hantavirus is the common vole .
