Thailand orthohantavirus , formerly Thailand virus , is a type of virus from the Hantaviridae family of the Bunyavirales order. It is distributed mainly in Thailand and causes hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome [4] . It was named in honor of the country in which it was discovered.

The first hantavirus in Thailand was discovered in 1985. A group of researchers caught more than three hundred different rodents, among which Indian bandicots were particularly distinguished, in the tissues of 20% of which were detected RNA of the virus [5] . Phylogenetic studies of Thailand orthohantavirus , conducted in 1994, showed that the virus is closely related to the Seoul virus and is in the same group as the viruses Puumala , Hantaan and Prospect Hill orthohantavirus [6] . In 2017, due to the separation of the Bunyavirales order and the revision of the Hantavirus genus, the name of the species was changed, as in most other taxa related to the order [2] .
In 2010, the Thailand orthohantavirus virus was detected in rodents of the island of Madagascar . At the same time, traces of the virus were found both in an exogenous black rat and in a species native to the island, the sleepy hamster ( Eliurus majori ). A genetic study of a virus extracted from Mayer hamsters showed that the new strain is significantly different from the parent and can be recognized as a new type of hantavirus. For the strain, the independent name Anjozorobe virus was proposed in honor of the city of , where the carrier of the new strain was caught [7] . In 2017, an audit of the genus Hantavirus synonymous this species with Thailand orthohantavirus [2] .
At the moment, it is not precisely established which species is a natural reservoir for Thailand orthohantavirus . It has been suggested that it could be an Indian bandicota , black rat , small rat and ( Rattus losea ) [5] .
