Ludwig Mecklinger ( German: Ludwig Mecklinger ; November 14, 1919 , Buchdorf - June 22, 1994 , Berlin ) - Minister of Health of the GDR in 1971-1989.

Biography
Ludwig Mecklinger graduated from high school in Eichstät and in 1939-1944 studied medicine at the universities of Leipzig , Hamburg and Berlin . In 1944 he was called up for military service in the Wehrmacht and was captured by the Americans, was held in a camp in Traunstein.
In 1945-1947, Mecklinger worked in the provincial administration of Saxony-Anhalt, where he was responsible for the fight against epidemics , in 1947-1948 he worked in the land health department, in 1948-1952 he held the position of Minister of Labor and Health of Saxony-Anhalt .
In 1949-1954, Ludwig Mecklinger studied law at the German Academy of State and Legal Sciences in Potsdam . In 1952-1954, he served as deputy chairman of the Central Committee of the Red Cross of the GDR. Until 1957, he served as deputy head of the medical service of the Militarized People’s Police, subsequently NNA . Until 1964, he headed the military medical department of the University of Greifswald .
In 1964 he received a professorship and was appointed vice-rector for military medicine and deputy minister of health. In 1969, he became the Secretary of State and First Deputy Minister. In 1971 he was appointed Minister and held this position until 1989.
In 1981-1990, Mecklinger was a deputy of the People’s Chamber , in 1986-1989 he was a member of the SED Central Committee.
