Biography
Born June 29, 1889 in the village of Porak, Philippines. He graduated in 1904 from the University of Ateneo de Manila, and in the same year entered the Central Seminary of St. Francis Xavier in Manila. On March 15, 1913, at the age of 24, he accepted the priestly ordination performed by Archbishop Jeremias Harty. After the ordination, he was immediately appointed secretary of the Manila archbishop . He served in this position for five months, after which he was appointed vicar in October 1913 to a parish in the village of Pampanga. In November 1914 he was appointed chaplain in the sanctuary of St. Fernando in Pampang. After some time, he was appointed rector of one of the temples of this sanctuary.
In 1917 he was transferred to Manila, where he soon founded a school, which in 1922 was transformed into the Academy of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This institution founded by him was included in 1925 as part of the College of St. Scholastica. In September 1932 he was appointed rector of the parish in the settlement of Angeles. As head of this parish, he founded catechetical centers and published the missionary newsletter Ing Cuyug (Echo). Contributed to the restoration of the Benedictine convent. In 1933, he became one of the founders of the College of Saint Angel, which later became one of the most significant universities on the island of Luzon .
On May 21, 1938, Pope Pius XI appointed him Bishop of the Diocese of Nueva Casares. On August 15, 1938, in the Manila Cathedral, he was ordained a bishop, performed by the apostolic delegate in the Philippines and titular archbishop Nicosia Guillmo Piani, accompanied by the bishop of New Segovia Santiago Karagnan Sancho and Bishop Bacolod Casimiro Magbua.
On June 29, 1951, the diocese of Nueva Cáceres was transformed into the archdiocese of Cáceres and Pedro Paolo Santos Songko became its first archbishop. In 1960, due to the increase in the number of pilgrims, he began construction of a new temple in the sanctuary in the city of Balatas [1] [2] . The construction of this temple ended in 1976 after its death.
He participated in the I and III sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
Died April 6, 1965.
