Although the album was not commercially successful, it is considered one of Pennywise's best releases, and includes their live recordings, Peaceful Day, Perefect People, Every Single Day, and Same Old Story. About Time was also the first Pennywise album to hit Billboard ; release reached 96th place. Most of the album continues the theme of problems over time: the fear of its passage, its control and its acceptance.
About Time is the last album featuring bassist Jason Terske, who committed suicide on July 29, 1996. Pennywise, after thinking about ending his career, decided to hire a new bass player, Randy Bradbury, who could remain on the team.
Background and Record
Vocalist Jim Lindbergh returned to Pennywise in 1992, after a temporary break from the release of his second album, Unknown Road, in 1993. Although Unknown Road did not hit the charts on the Billboard , the group enjoyed moderate success and earned support on national and world tours with bands such as The Offspring . Due to constant tours and performances on snowboarding and surfing videos, the album was sold in a circulation of about 200,000 copies. In the second half of 1994, Pennywise began recording their third album, entitled About Time . They entered Total Access Recoding in Redondo Beach in December of that year and recorded their new album over a three-month period. When they were in the midst of an About Time record, major labels appeared who wanted to sign the band after the unexpected success of Green Day and The Offspring , but Pennywise rejected the idea of ββsigning with a major label and decided to stay with Epitatph.
About Time was Pennywise's latest studio album with bassist Jason Terske; however, this is not their last album which contains songs written by him. Tersk was still alive when recording Full Circle , and wrote several previously unreleased songs that eventually appear on Yesterdays' 2014 album.
Accepting an album
In a review on Allmusic, Paul Henderson gave the album 4.5 out of 5 stars and said: βThe fourth release of the group is presented as a single unit of strength, hardcore and positive with the addition of lyrics and ideals. While music and meaning remain almost the same, depth and maturity increase. β [1]
