History
The church was built as a winter church on the territory of the Pokrovsky Monastery , presumably in the late XVII - early XVIII centuries, and was called Trinity. This monastery was located on the outskirts of the village of Ivanovo (now the place where the Palace of Arts stands) and was created in the 16th century. The original design of the temple was preserved in it throughout its history.
In connection with the construction of a new stone winter church in 1815, by order of the Vladimir Spiritual Consistory, the Trinity Church was dismantled and transferred to the territory of the Assumption Cemetery (now 76 Smirnova St. ), where it was consecrated on November 25-26, 1817 in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary . By the middle of the 19th century, the church had become dilapidated, in 1849 the chapel of the Great Barbara the Great Martyr was broken, and since 1883 the services ceased, since a stone temple already existed in the cemetery.
In 1904-1905, at the initiative of the manufacturer and founder of the city museum of local lore, D. G. Burylin, the church was again dismantled and moved from the Assumption Cemetery to the Novo-Posad (Novo-Uspenskoe) cemetery (now Frunze St. , 7), where it was restored and attached a bell tower. The consecration of the temple took place on January 15, 1906. In the 1920s belonged to the Renovationist community. The church was closed in 1935, by a decision of the presidium of the regional executive committee on October 22, 1935, at the same time the cemetery was destroyed. At first it was planned to adapt the church to the hostel of workers of the machine-building plant named after A. S. Kiseleva, but instead it was transferred to the regional museum for organization in the building of the museum of the history of Ivanov. At the end of 1938, the exposition moved to the regional museum of local lore. On October 18, 1939, an anti-religious museum was opened in the church, which lasted until 1941.
In 1943, the church council of the Old Believer community was registered in the church. The first service took place on Easter 1946, on May 11 of that year, the church was officially transferred to the community of Old Believers of the Belokrinitsky hierarchy and consecrated in the name of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God .
In 1991, part of the parishioners reunited with the Ivanovo-Ascension Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate on the basis of unanimity , capturing the church, and it became part of the Ivanovo-Ascension Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church .
In 2013, the restoration of the church began, during which, under a layer of old stucco, fragments of a preserved ancient painting were discovered, the existence of which no one had previously known [1] . All works were temporarily suspended, the question of the study and possible restoration of the discovered painting was considered. Restoration work was supposed to continue in 2016 and 2017 [2] .
On the evening of November 18, 2015, the church was destroyed by fire. The old temple cannot be restored [2] [3] , but the question of building an exact copy on the site of the old temple is being considered. In this case, the surviving parts of the old temple will be used in the construction of a new one or preserved as relics.
In January 2017, the Ministry of Culture refused to finance the development of design estimates for the restoration of the temple [4] .
On July 5, 2018, the site on which the burned church stood, together with its remains, was returned to the former user - the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church .
