The freestyle wrestling competitions in the framework of the 1924 lightweight champion games (up to 56 kilograms) were held in Paris from July 11 to July 14, 1924 at the Winter Velodrome .

28 athletes from 12 countries entered the competition. Only two representatives from each country could take part, so initially 16 wrestlers were allowed, but 4 wrestlers did not appear and the title was played between 12 wrestlers. The youngest participant was Jim Trifunov (20 years old), the oldest Pietro Tordera (39 years old). Competitions were held according to the Bergwal system .

At this tournament, the star of the Finnish wrestler Kusta Pihlaamyaki , a multiple European champion, a participant in four Olympiads, who won two gold and one silver medal, was lit. He won all meetings without problems, becoming the first time in his career as an Olympic champion. Another prominent Finnish wrestler, Kaarlo Myakinen , won the second place, who in the next games, in the absence of Pihlaamyaki, who moved to another category, became the champion. The third place was won by American Brian Hines , who was expected to compete seriously for first place, but he came to the competition with a large excess in weight and was forced to quickly drive him away, which weakened the wrestler.
