The film was shot based on the real criminal case of 1981: during the reign of Chon Doo-hwan, 22 people — students, teachers and office workers — members of the book club — were accused of supporting North Korean politics. Roh Moo Hyun , who was a lawyer at the time, together with his colleagues (including Moon Jain and Kim Kvanil) defended the people in the case against the state. After this case, Roh Moo-hyun became an influential human rights defender, and later - the ninth president of the Republic of Korea [7] [8] [9] .

Story
Attorney Son U Sok, who does not have a university education, is an outcast in Busan’s legal environment. For earnings, he is engaged in the dubious affairs of the rich, who hide taxes, and gradually achieves success in this area. However, Soku has to plunge into the protection of civil liberties , after a friend asks to protect her son, who is among students arrested on suspicion of sympathy for communism .
