Structure

The cultural center is managed by a council, which is formed by the Assam Government Department of Culture and is headed by the director of the Assam Civil Service or an employee of the Indian Administrative Service.

Kalaksetra is divided into several complexes:

  • The Central Museum exhibits for display items used by various ethnic groups of Assam. The museum also houses several state cultural sites.
  • The open-air theater can accommodate 2,000 people. It features traditional Indian dances and dramatic performances.
  • Sahitya Bhavan is a library in Kalakshetra, which has a huge collection of rare books and manuscripts and serves as a repository of the region's literature.
  • Lalit Kala Bhawan is a center for exhibitions and seminars on art and culture.
  • Heritage park is also part of the huge Kalaksetra Sankaradeva complex.
  • The complex has a cable car with a beautiful view of the hills of the Shillong Plateau.
  • The Museum is another attraction in Kalakshetra.

Most of the buildings and structures of Kalaksetra have retained the ethnic Assamese design. An exact copy of Ran Ghar (Akhom Amphitheater in the Assamese district of Sibsagar ) is located in the lobby of the main part of the Central Museum. The museum stores some traditional artifacts or artifacts of Assamese culture. The open-air theater, with breathtaking views of the foggy mountain range of Khashi Hills, is a permanent venue for a wide range of cultural events.

What can be called the main attraction in Kalaksetra is the “City of Artists”. This town depicts Assam's rural life in its most striking forms, such as statues and models of thatched huts. Most urban children, who are currently deprived of rural experience in connection with mass urbanization , can expand their knowledge of their roots through a virtual city tour.

Sahitya Bhawan is an archive of Assamese texts and literature and provides a good base for any historian who collects information about Assam or Northeast India . Lalit Kala Bhawan is a hall of art and sculptures of world history.

Kalakshetra quite often holds various seminars on drama, cinema, as well as visual arts. In addition, visitors can always see the frescoes on the walls surrounding the center, depicting various moments of the battle, and other iconic Assamese images.
