Biography
Lev Slavin was born in Odessa (now Ukraine ) in the family of an employee. He studied at the University of Novorossiysk . In 1916 , from the first course, he was mobilized into the army and participated in the First World War . It was these events that later formed the basis of his first novel, The Heir ( 1931 ). After demobilization was engaged in journalism.
Creative activity began in Odessa, in the “ Team of Poets ” that emerged there in 1919 , with which the fates of many famous writers are related: E. G. Bagritsky , I. A. Ilf , Yu. K. Olesha , V. P. Kataev and others ; was friends with Ilf. The first stories of Slavin were published in the Odessa magazine "Communist".
In 1924, Slavin moved to Moscow and collaborated with the Gudok newspaper , appearing in all newspaper genres. One of the authors of the book "The White Sea-Baltic Canal named after Stalin " (1934).
In 1932, Lev Slavin wrote a play about the civil war - “ Intervention ”, which since 1933 has been staged on the stages of Soviet theaters and brought him fame. This play was played everywhere, returned to the stage by several generations of directors, translated into many languages, was repeatedly published and was filmed. Then he began working in the cinema. The most famous works are scenarios for the movie “The Return of Maxim” ( 1937 ) and “Intervention” ( 1967 ). The last film was recognized as a “creative failure” by the director ( G. I. Poloki ), lay on the shelves for 19 years and only in 1987 was released for hire. Based on the story by Slavin “Cafe Kanava”, a lyrical comedy was shot with Marina Neyelova “ Ladies invite gentlemen ”.
In 1939, Slavin was a war correspondent at Khalkhin-Gol , in 1941-1945 , during the period of the Great Patriotic War , a war correspondent for the newspapers Krasnaya Zvezda and Izvestia , a major in quartermaster service. He participated in the First World War , in the battles of Khalkhin Gol and the Great Patriotic War . In Mongolia, the writer met with G. K. Zhukov .
He wrote memoirs about I.E. Babel , A.P. Platonov , Sun. V. Ivanov , M. A. Svetlov , wrote books about A. I. Herzen , V. G. Belinsky , J. Dombrowski and others. He also wrote novels and memoirs . Many works of Slavin translated into foreign languages.
In 1964, he took part in writing a collective detective novel, “ He Who Laughs Laughs, ” published in The Week .
In 1966 he signed a petition in defense of A. D. Sinyavsky and Yu. M. Daniel .
In 1976, the eightieth anniversary was celebrated in the Central House of Writers (CDL), in particular with the participation of V.P. Kataev , L. Z. Trauberg and V.N. Pluchek .
He died on September 4, 1984 in Moscow .
