In her childhood, she moved a lot due to her long-term business trips of her father, an employee of the .

Received a bachelor's degree in social and political sciences from the University of Cambridge , a master's degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and the University of Sussex [1] .

In the period 1973-1974. participated in the program of young specialists of the World Bank . In the period 1974-1975. loan officer, and in the period 1976-1979. Economist of the Department of Agrarian Projects at the World Bank. In the period 1979-1985. technical consultant for agriculture at the UNDP Policy, Program and Evaluation Office . In the period 1985-1987. Deputy Permanent Representative of UNDP in Burundi, in the period 1987-1991. chief economist and deputy director, and in the period 1992-1994. Head of the West Africa Division, UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa. In the period 1995-2004. Director of Human Development Report , UNDP .
