Title
The German name Unterdorf ("Lower Village") received the village, since it was the lower German village on the Ilovlya River; The name Veselovka comes from the nearby Veselyi forest ravine [2] .
History
It was founded in 1852 by immigrants from the crown German colonies. Until 1917, it was part of the Ilovlinsky colonial district, after 1871, the Ilovlinsky volost, Kamyshin district , and Saratov province [2] .
The village belonged to the Lutheran parish of Rosenberg . There was a house of worship in the village [2] .
According to the Ilovlinsky volost government in 1894, the Unterdorf colony had a public church (German) school, opened in 1853 ; 1 wine and 1 small shops, 10 wells, 2 windmills. In 1894 there were 99 courtyards, including one public school building [2] . The land fund amounted to 3136 acres in 1857, and 5434 acres in 1910 [2] .
After the establishment of Soviet power, the German village was first Nizhne-Ilovlinsky district of the Golo-Karamysh district of the Labor commune (Region) of the Volga Germans, since 1922 - Kamensky, and since 1935 - the Erlenbach canton of the Volga Germans Republic ; administrative center of the Unterdorf village council (in 1926 the village council included: the village of Unterdorf, the Fritzendorf farm, the Agronomical Knowledge farm) [2] .
During the famine of 1921, 38 people were born, 27 died. In 1926, there is an elementary school, a cooperative shop, and an agricultural partnership. During the period of collectivization, a collective farm named after Telman was organized [3] .
In 1927, the decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee "On Changes in the Administrative Division of the Autonomous Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of SR Nemtsev of the Volga Region and on the Assignment of German Names to the Old Names that Existed Before 1914" was named Unterdorf [4] .
In September 1941, the German population of the village was deported to the east, the village was transferred to the Stalingrad (Volgograd) region. On March 31, 1944, by the decision of the Executive Committee of the Stalingrad Regional Council of Workers' Deputies "On renaming settlements of the Stalingrad region bearing German names," the village of Unterdorf was renamed into the village of Veselovo [5] .
Physico-geographical characteristics
The village is located in the central part of the Kamyshin district, within the Volga Upland , which is part of the East European Plain , on the right bank of the Ilovlya River , at an altitude of 108 meters above sea level [6] . Dark chestnut soils are widespread in the vicinity of the settlement, floodplain saline soils are in the Ilovli floodplain [7] .
By road, the distance to the administrative center of the rural settlement of the village of Michurinsky is 27 km, to the regional center of Kamyshin - 25 km, to the regional center of Volgograd - 210 km, to the city of Saratov - 180 km [8] .

The climate is temperate continental (according to the Köppen - Dfa climate classification ). The long-term rainfall is 400 mm. Most precipitation falls in July - 48 mm, the least in March - 22 mm. The average annual temperature is + 6.8 C, the average temperature of the coldest month of January is -9.7 C, the hottest month of July is +22.7 C [6] .
