The post of the boatswain is a post of the senior combatant non-commissioned officer . On the ship, the boatswain has precedence over all lower ranks, both combatant and non-combatant. The boatswain must know the names of all sailors and non-commissioned officers, their abilities and knowledge in maritime affairs, observe their behavior and, in addition, carry out rigging , lifting weights, setting and lowering the mast , cleaning anchors , all equipment up to arming the ship, compass , steering wheel and sails on boats in various situations, the basis of the rail link with the shore and methods for connecting the patch to the hole. If there is a boatswain team on the ship, all the boatswain from its composition, including their chief - the senior boatswain (the main boatswain ), take turns on duty . The boatswain on duty is called the watchman . His responsibilities include monitoring the good condition of the rigging used to lift weights.
