Biography
Georgy Vasilievich Gayko was born on December 21, 1936 in the village of Voloka (Vizhnitsky district) of the Chernivtsi region .
Formation in Medicine
In 1960 he graduated from the Chernivtsi Medical Institute and was sent to work in hospitals in the South Kazakhstan region [1] .
In 1963 , he studied at the Zaporizhzhya Institute for Advanced Medical Studies with a degree in Orthopedics and Traumatology.
From 1963 to 1964 he worked as a surgeon in the Melitopol City Hospital.
Scientific activity
Since 1964 Gayko G.V. has been working at the Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR as a researcher, senior researcher, scientific secretary.
In 1968 he defended his thesis.
From 1975 to 1978 , he was seconded to Algeria, where he works as an orthopedic surgeon, a traumatologist at the country's Central Hospital.
In 1980 - awarded the academic title “ Senior Researcher ”.
Since 1983 - Deputy Director of the Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR .
In 1985 , he defended his doctoral dissertation.
Since 1989 - Director of the Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR , where he manages the clinic of joint diseases in children and adolescents.
Since 1992 - awarded the academic title of “ Professor ”.
Since 1995 - Head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Kiev Medical University of UANM .
Since 1998 - Member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Since 2002 , he has been managing the clinic of traumatology and orthopedics for adults at the Institute entrusted to him.
He made a significant contribution to the development of problems of rehabilitation of patients with the consequences of poliomyelitis , orthopedic aspects of hematogenous poliomyelitis , arthroplasty , bone and cartilage tissue transplantation, reconstructive operations in patients with degenerative-dystrophic joints, stable functional osteosynthesis , osteoporosis .
The main directions of scientific activity:
- trauma and its consequences, injuries ;
- methods of stable functional osteosynthesis in fractures and reconstructive surgery;
- study of the features of growth and formation of bones and joints with hematogenous osteomyelitis in children and adolescents;
- development of reconstructive operations;
- bone and cartilage tissue transplantation in experiment and clinic;
- development of methods for the treatment, prognosis and prevention of degenerative and dystrophic processes in congenital and acquired diseases;
- joint arthroplasty ,
- osteoporosis in the age aspect and its effect on the course of diseases of bones and joints;
- organization of trauma and orthopedic care and services in Ukraine, training.
He prepared 8 doctors and 14 candidates of sciences.

He is the author of 415 scientific works, including: seven monographs, one textbook, six reference books, 12 copyright certificates and patents, 18 methodological recommendations.
