Parvin, Ali

Ali Parvin (born October 12, 1946 [2] in Tehran ) is an Iranian footballer and football coach. He is one of the most famous football players in the history of Iran and is considered one of the best players in Iran. During his career, he played mainly for Persepolis , having spent 18 years with the team, in addition, he coached the club three times for a total of 17 years, and was also the president of the club.

AFC elected him as one of 17 representatives of the Asian Football Elite, and he received a commemorative figurine from the confederation [3] . He was included in the Persepolis Hall of Fame, the club thanked for his great contribution to the development of the team in the later stages of his career. Parvin began playing football at the Aref amateur club. Later, he was noticed by representatives of Elburs, the Kiana double, and he moved to the last club a year later. In the end, he moved to Paykan [8] [9] and for two years was one of the key players in the team. Then he moved to Persepolis [9] , many other Paykan players did the same after the club was disbanded in 1970. Parvin played an important role in the fact that Persepolis did not break up after the Islamic Revolution and during the Iran-Iraq War . Toward the end of his career, he worked as a playing coach. He retired from professional football in 1988.

He played for the Iranian national team and represented the country in the winning Asian Cups of 1972 and 1976 . Parvin participated in the 1972 Olympics in Munich and played in all three matches of Iran [10] . He also participated in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal , again playing in all three matches of Iran, in addition, he scored in a game against Poland [11] . His last international tournament was the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina . He ended his international career with 76 matches and 8 goals [12] .

Coaching career

In late 1989, Parvin became the coach of the Iranian national team. He already had coaching experience, since before that he worked with Persepolis. At first, his popularity grew rapidly, as the team won the 1990 Asian Summer Games , but relegation from the 1992 Asian Cup in the group stage and the loss of a chance to enter the 1994 World Cup cost him work. He was fired in 1993, he was replaced by Stanko Poklepovich .

Later, he again became the trainer of Persepolis and helped the team win three league titles. He left the club in the 2003/04 season, but returned a year later as team technical director. After a poor start in the 2005/06 season, he again became a Persepolis coach, but left at the end of the season due to poor club results.

Admin Career

On April 30, 2007, Ali Parvin participated in the change of ownership of the Ekbatan club from the Azadegan League , the team was later renamed Steel Azin . Parvin became a member of the board of directors [13] . On December 1, 2010, he was elected President of Steel Azin, but resigned after the team returned to the Azadegan League on June 15, 2011. He was also the acting president of Persepolis from May to October 2001. In the early 2010s, Ali Parvin was a member of the Board of Directors of Persepolis. On January 22, 2014 after the resignation of Mohammed Ruyanian from the post of president of the club, Parvin temporarily took this post [14] .

Personal life

Parvin married in 1976, has two daughters and one son. His son, Mohamad Parvin, followed in his father's footsteps and also played for Persepolis. Ali Parvin lives with his family in the Lavasan region, Tehran [15] .
