Biography
Born in 1663 (dates are indicated on November 10, November 24, December 6 ) in the city of Wernigerode . From 1680 he studied medicine in Wittenberg , Jena , Leiden and Utrecht , in 1687 he received a doctorate, defending his thesis De febre quotidiana intermittente .
Since 1688, Spies has been the chief physician of the Holzkrais Magdeburg Archbishopric . In 1690, he became the personal physician of Count Wernigerodesky, in 1695 he moved to Wolfenbüttel .
Since 1701, Johann Karl was the personal physician of the Duke of Wolfenbüttel. Since 1718, in Helmstedt, he taught anatomy and physiology, then - therapy.
Between 1718 and 1724, Shpis published several works on botanical-medical topics.
He died on July 12, 1729 in Helmstedt.
In 1790, Noel Joseph de Necker named Spiesia after Spies. Since all names from the work of Elementa botanica are considered invalid, this name is synonymous with the later Oxytropis .
