Colander (from German durchschlagen - punch through ) - an item of kitchen utensils in the form of a small pot or ladle with holes on the bottom (and sometimes on the sides). It is similar to its purpose.
A colander is widely used in the kitchen for cooking. It is designed to separate liquid from solids, for example, after cooking pasta , cereals , potatoes , etc. The colander is also used to wash and rinse berries , mushrooms , small fruits and vegetables , and also strain the curd whey [1] [2] .
Most often colanders are made of light metal , such as aluminum . Enamelled steel colanders and stainless steel colanders are also in use. Plastic is also sometimes used, but such colanders are not recommended for straining hot. Often a product comes with one long handle or two short ears located on opposite sides.
