The Parliament of Algeria is the legislative body of Algeria, consisting of two chambers [1] : the Council of the Nation and the National People’s Assembly . Legislative power in Algeria split into two houses in 1996.

Council of the Nation
The Council of the Nation is the upper house of the Algerian parliament and has 144 seats. 48 members of the Council of the Nations are appointed by the President of Algeria, and the rest, that is 96, are elected by vote. [2] The board is updated every 1.5 years. The term of office is 6 years.
National Assembly
The National People's Assembly is the lower house of the Algerian parliament and consists of 462 members, 8 of whom are Algerians living abroad. The members of the meeting are directly elected by the population. The term of office is 5 years. [3]
