Vegetables - agricultural vegetable plants grown by man for the sake of edible juicy productive organs, united under the culinary concept of vegetables . The issues of selection , cultivation and harvesting of vegetable crops are handled by a special branch of agriculture - vegetable growing .
In the world economy, there are about 120 vegetable crops, 55 of which are cultivated everywhere, including more than 600 species of plants from about 80 botanical families.
Depending on the organ of the plant that serves to obtain the vegetable, vegetable crops are divided:
- fruit and vegetable crops
- leafy vegetables
- bulb crops
- root crops
Sometimes vegetables may include young sweetcorn , beans , peas , and some other crops . However, usually in crop production, these crops are considered as legumes or grain crops . Gourds by some sources may refer to fruit and vegetable crops .
Among vegetable crops there are both annual, biennial, and perennial plants. For any vegetable crop, many varieties are bred that are widely cultivated around the world on an industrial scale, both in open ground and in greenhouses.
