Sichuan University of Foreign Languages

Sichuan University of Foreign Languages ( Chinese 四川 外国语 大学 ) is an international university located in Chongqing , China . The university was originally established as the Russian Language School of the Southwestern Military University of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) in May 1950. It is the only university in southwestern China specializing in the study of foreign languages. Due to its close relationship with the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is one of the few universities where students directly go to work at the ministry. According to the latest rating of Chinese universities, Sichuan University of Foreign Languages ​​ranks fourth among all Chinese universities that train specialists in the field of international relations [2] [3] .

More than 500 teachers work at the Sichuan University of Foreign Languages, of which more than 170 are professors, have degrees and conduct scientific research, and 20 foreign native speakers are also working.

In 2015, 12,000 students studied at the university, of which 8,000 were in the third and fourth courses, 2,500 studied in the magistracy, the rest took short language courses. Over the past 50 years, more than 50,000 foreign language specialists who work in China and 50 foreign countries around the world have graduated from the University.

Languages ​​studied include Portuguese , Russian , English , Spanish , French , Italian , German , Korean , Japanese , Arabic , and Chinese as a Foreign Language. In addition, training is carried out in the areas of training - law, journalism, marketing and tourism management. Graduate studies are conducted in six areas of study: Portuguese, Russian language and literature, English language and literature, French language and literature, German language and literature, Japanese language and literature, comparative historical literature and world literature [4] .

The university has the Alliance Francaise, Center for German Language. Goethe, Korean Language Center, Wusong University (South Korea) and Russian Language Center. IUIA is partnering with more than 20 foreign universities around the world.

The university is included in the list of landscape gardening institutions by decision of the city administration.

History

Sichuan University of Foreign Languages ​​was founded in 1950 at the initiative of Deng Xiaoping , Liu Bocheng and Hae Lun . Former University Names: Russian Language Training Regiment at the Southwestern Military Political Academy of the PLA, Russian Language Training Battalion at the Second PLA Higher Infantry School, Russian Language Department of the Southwestern People's Revolutionary University, Southwestern Higher School of the Russian Language. MUIA is located in Chongqing off the coast of the Jialing River. The total area of ​​the university is more than 70 hectares.
