Pierre Butcheff (nee Peter Bachev ; June 23, 1901, Harbin - April 12, 1932, Paris ) - French actor of Russian origin. He actively acted in films in the 1920s and early 1930s, among his most famous works - the main role in the film Andalusian Dog (1929), directed by Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali . From 1930 until his death, he was married to Denis Butcheff, film editor. [7]

Life
Peter Bachev was born in Harbin , grew up in St. Petersburg , then his family emigrated to Geneva , Switzerland . In 1921, Butcheff moved to Paris , where at first he worked as a theater actor, but soon joined the film industry. The first appearance on the screen dates back to 1923, and by the mid-1920s, Butcheff became a very famous artist.
Both lead actors in the movie Andalusian Dog committed suicide: Butcheff was reportedly swallowed veronal on April 12, 1932, and his film partner, Simone Morey , committed the act of self-immolation in 1954.
