Kurzeme dialects of the Livonian dialect (also Tamian dialects , Kuron dialects , Curonian Tamian dialects ; Latvian tāmnieku kursiskās izloksnes , lit. tamniekų kuršiškoji patarmė ) - dialects of the Livonian dialect , common in the north-north of Latvia [ north-western ] [4] . In the Livonian dialect, Kurzeme dialects are opposed to Vidzeme dialects [5] [6] .
In addition to the Livonian substrate , noted throughout the Livonian area, traces of the language of the ancient Curonian are also preserved in the Kurzeme dialects.

Classification
The Kurzeme dialect range is divided into deep Kurzeme dialects (lat. Dziļās, tāmnieku ), common in the northern Kurzeme area, and shallow Kurzeme dialects (lat. Nedziļās ), widespread in the southern Kurzeme area [4] [7] .
According to the classification of A. Gaters, in the Kurzeme area, the Curonian Tamsk dialects stand out [4] .
Distribution Area
The area of distribution of Kurzeme dialects is located in the northwestern regions of Latvia in the northern part of the historical and ethnographic region of Kurzeme [1] [3] .
According to the modern administrative-territorial division of Latvia , the area of Kurzeme dialects occupies the territories of Ventspils , Alsung , Dundag , Talsi , Roy and Mersrag regions , as well as the northern parts of the territories of Kuldig , Kandava , Tukums and Engur territories [1] .
The Kurzeme range of the Livonian dialect from the north, east and west is surrounded by the Baltic Sea ; in the south, the area of distribution of Kurzeme dialects of the Middle Latvian dialect adjoins the Kurzeme dialect [1] .
In the area of distribution of Kurzeme dialects in the north of the Kurzeme Peninsula, the range of the Liv language is still preserved (several coastal villages near the Irbensky Strait and the Gulf of Riga ) [8] .
Dialect Features
Dialectical features such as [9] are characteristic of Kurzeme dialects:
- The possibility of losing vowels , including diphthongs , pronounced without secondary emphasis , in the suffix syllables: [sac̄'t] ( lat. Letter . Sacīt [sacī̂t]) "say"; [dañctęs] (lat. lit. dancotājs [dañ: cuôtā̃js]) "dancer".
- The presence of dialectic features common with non-Levonian dialects of Kurzeme, in particular, the preservation of the vowel u , preceding the consonant b , v ([duban̂c] - lat. Letter . Dibens [dibèns] “bottom”); preservation of the ancient tautosyllabic n ([plęñstiês] - lat. literary. plesties [plestiês] “expand”), etc.
