Insectoptera insects [1] ( Latin Palaeoptera ) - infrared class of winged insects , which includes several ancient detachments, representatives of most of which died out at the end of Paleozoic . Currently, there are only Ephemeroptera ( mayfly ) and Odonata ( dragonfly ) squads.

Feature
The main feature of Palaeoptera is that their wings cannot fold behind the abdomen , as in Neoptera (only representatives of the extinct unit Diaphanopterodea) reveal this ability [2] . The different mechanisms of folding the wings and their work during the flight testify to different paths of the evolutionary development of ancient and winged insects.
The lack of the necessary paleontological material leads to strong difficulties in establishing close relations between different paleopter groups. The three supernatants currently distinguished unite, basically, only their differences in the structure of the body from the new wing. There are three hypotheses, according to each of which one of the three ancient winged order is more closely related to the new winged ones than the other two, and thus the paleopters are a paraphyletic group. The fact that Diaphanopterodea could fold its wings around the abdomen may mean that all Palaeodictyopteroidea are an early basal group of all pterygot (winged insects) .
