“ Friend of Health ” is a medical (“ people's medical ”) newspaper that was published in Russian in the capital of the Russian Empire , St. Petersburg from 1833 to 1869, weekly, “ under the supervision of the medical authorities ” [1] , because the publication of this periodical was only possible thanks to a large subsidy from the Russian government. The publisher of the newspaper was Kondraty Ivanovich Grum-Grzhimailo, MD [2] . The editor of Friend of Health was Yakov Alekseevich Chistovich [3] .

The newspaper dealt with almost exclusively medical topics , articles in it, as a rule, were devoted to the prevention , diagnosis and treatment of various diseases ; cases from real medical practice were described, a lot of attention was paid to pharmacology and the rules for taking medications . A significant place was occupied by transfers from foreign medical periodicals [4] . In addition, the Society of Russian Doctors regularly posted the minutes of their meetings in the “Friend of Health” [5] .
The bibliographic section of the newspaper “Friend of Health” described reprints and novelties in medical literature (mainly European) [4] .
Such well-known authors in medical circles as I. I. Alexandrov , E. F. Aristov , S. V. Girenko , V. A. Karavaev , E. N. Smelsky , A. F. posted their articles in the newspaper “Friend of Health” . Startsev , A. Ya. Shcherbakov , etc.
