The author of a number of popular science monographs, for the first time detailing in detail the everyday and economic culture of the peoples of Kazakhstan . He wrote mainly in the Kazakh language [4] . Active participant in the project of the USSR Academy of Sciences "Historical and Ethnographic Atlas of Central Asia and Kazakhstan" (1955-1990). In the early years of independence, Argynbaev was already an elderly person - a representative of the ethnologists of the “ old Soviet school ” who were distinguished by a high level of qualification; his departure was “a serious loss for both the ethnology department and the ethnographic science of Kazakhstan as a whole ” [2] .
Biography
Born on September 21, 1924 in aul No. 17 [5] [3] of the Bayanaul District of Pavlodar County in the Kazakh- Sharua family [1] [6] .
Collectivization in Kazakhstan in 1929-1930 led to a famine in the steppes. Since 1931, the large Argynbaev family moved in search of a better share from place to place: Kuzbass (1931-1932), Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (1932-1934), Novosibirsk (1934-1935), Karatalsky district (1935-1938), Kapalsky district (1938). To feed the family, father and mother worked in hard or low-paid jobs. In the summer of 1939, Khalel Argynbaev received a certificate at the eight-year-old Konyrsky school and entered the Kapalsky pedagogical school [3] .
After graduating from college, from September 1, 1942 [7] he became a cadet of short-term radio telegraph courses of the Central Asian military district in Tashkent . After graduating from the courses on January 13, 1943, on March 8, the 18-year-old radio operator Halel Argynbaev arrived at the headquarters of the 10th artillery division of the Voronezh Front . On April 24, 1943, he was transferred by the radio operator to the headquarters of the 27th artillery brigade , in which he had served before the Victory as part of the 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian fronts.
After the war, until May 1946 he remained a senior radio operator in one of the headquarters of the Carpathian Military District . Since May 1946 - commander of radio operators of the 135th artillery brigade of the Baltic Military District (the city of Chortkov ). He was demobilized on March 1, 1947. He was awarded the military order of the Patriotic War , the military medal "For Military Merit" and one commemorative medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" [3] . The last award gave Argynbaev the right to receive three more commemorative medals.
September 1, 1947 entered the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute. Abay , at the Faculty of History. After graduating with honors, in August 1951 he was appointed head teacher at the Pedagogical School in Panfilov , 30 km from the border with China. For three years, he combined the work of the head teacher and a history teacher there.
October 15, 1954, after the competition, enrolled in full-time postgraduate study at the Department of Ethnography of the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography at the Kazakh Academy of Sciences . I.V. Zakharova, who was only a year older than him, while acting as head of the Department of Ethnography, became its supervisor [3] . Expeditions followed one after another. Three years later, when the term for graduate school expired, the materials of the dissertation prepared by Argynbaev on data from only one area were proposed to be used as the basis for another dissertation, already on materials throughout East Kazakhstan. Having received the title of Junior Researcher, Argynbaev continued to work on his Ph.D. thesis, and on May 19, 1960 he successfully defended it. Thesis: “Historical and cultural ties between the Russian and Kazakh peoples and their impact on the material culture of the Kazakhs in the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. (based on materials from East Kazakhstan) ” [3] .
On September 22, 1961, Kh. A. Argynbaev was approved and. about. Senior Researcher IIAE AN KazSSR. December 29, 1963, for his active research work in the field of traditional Kazakh ethnology, he was awarded the title of senior research fellow. As a result of many years of expeditionary trips to almost all regions and regions of Kazakhstan, Halel Argynbaevich collected significant field ethnographic material. At first, on the basis of it, he wrote small articles, an understanding of the general picture gradually developed, and monographs appeared. One of these monographs became the basis for a doctoral dissertation on the topic “Family and marriage among Kazakhs”, defended in 1975. In December of the following year, Argynbaev becomes and. about. Head of the Department of Ethnography IIAE AN KazSSR. On March 18, 1977, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences, and on May 28, he was approved as the head of the Department of Ethnography [3] .
As an honored teacher of Kazakh State University S. M. Kirov February 19, 1982 the scientist was awarded the title of professor in the department of archeology and ethnography. On May 19, 1986, Kh. A. Argynbaev was elected head of the department for the third and last time: in 1989 he left his post by age and since January 1990 he was in the position of chief researcher at the Ethnography Department.
During the years of the collapse of the USSR and the independence of his homeland, the already elderly Kh. A. Argynbaev did not stop working - on the contrary, there were only more plans and projects. Before the “Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan” was formed in mid-1990, the professor first of all prepares for her a memo “On the need for an Ethnological Center in the NAS RK system” [4] . In 1995, the result of the work of his whole life, the result of his efforts as a scientist, organizer, administrator and patriot, a truncated and incomplete version of the 40-year-old project of the USSR Academy of Sciences “Historical and Ethnographic Atlas of Central Asia and Kazakhstan” was published: this collective monograph was published under the title “Kazakhs. Historical and Ethnographic Research ” [2] .
The last work of the chief researcher of the Department of Ethnography, Doctor of Historical Sciences, holder of the Order of the Patriotic War and the medal "For Military Merit" Khalel Argynbaevich Argynbaev, "The Traditional Culture of Life Support of the Kazakhs", came out after his sudden death on August 08, 1998, and was published only thanks to the "titanic" efforts of his students [3] .
Scientific Contribution
By January 1, 1990, Kh. A. Argynbaev had written 7 monographs and 167 articles. Under his scientific supervision, about 15 doctoral and master's theses were defended [3] , which allows us to talk about his own school of Kazakh ethnology, created by a scientist with his forty years of work [4] .
The main, exclusively productive stage of the scientific activity of Khalel Argynbaev dates back to the 1960s and early 1980s. During this period, scientists and colleagues conducted about 30 ethnographic expeditions, virtually the entire territory of Kazakhstan was examined. Huge unique field material was collected on the traditional everyday culture of the Kazakhs, including material, which replenished the collections of museums, on the basis of which a number of large and important monographs were written for understanding this culture.
Using a wide variety of materials, he actually managed for the first time to analyze the characteristics of nomadic, semi-nomadic and sedentary cattle breeding, to determine the nature, range, direction and extent of nomadic routes, to show livestock grazing systems, to determine and describe the relationship between the structure of the herd and the productivity of the vegetation cover. In his writings, the basis of the vital activity of the Kazakh society, livestock breeding , is most fully elucidated, a capacious description of the cattle-breeding economy of the Kazakhs, folk veterinary medicine and customs associated with cattle breeding are given.
The works of Kh. A. Argynbaev made an equally significant contribution to the study of the Kazakh family, home, crafts, and the full and scientifically based history of Kazakh zhuzes ( shezhire ); at the end of his scientific career, he was especially attracted to the “ folk knowledge ” of the Kazakhs, as a storehouse of causal relationships established by the experience of many generations.
