The Coat of Arms of Niue - or the “State Seal of Niue” was created in 1947 when Niue gained independence and joined the Free Association along with New Zealand . It is a state symbol along with the flag of the country .
The appearance of the coat of arms of Niue is identical to the coat of arms of New Zealand .
History
Until 1974, Niue used the arms of New Zealand , but the on the constitution , adopted in 1974, stated the requirement to create its own coat of arms.
In 1977, at the request of the Assembly of Niue, the New Zealand Parliament adopted an amendment to the New Zealand Press Law, which introduced the design of the press to the common countries of the Kingdom of New Zealand [1] .
Until 2007, the seal was used in Tokelau to confirm the adoption of the law, but then the new law replaced the seal of Niue with the words “signed by the ” ( eng. Tokelau ) [2] .
The seal must be kept by the the Niue Assembly and is used to approve documents and laws. The speaker is responsible for the proper use of the seal [3] . All documents recognizing a fact as well-known ( eng. Judical notice ) must end with a seal [4] .
Appearance
In the middle is the coat of arms of New Zealand. In the upper left corner there are four stars, symbolizing the constellation of the Southern Cross (the same stars are used in the national flag in a different proportion); in the upper right - the golden fleece , symbolizing cattle breeding ; in the lower left - a sheaf of wheat, symbolizing agriculture ; in the lower right - two hammers, symbolizing the mining industry and the industry. Between the sides of the shield there is a vertical bar, which depicts three ships, symbolizing the importance of maritime trade for New Zealand and the immigrant origin of the New Zealanders, on the left is a Pakeha woman (of European descent), holding the New Zealand flag , and a Maori warrior holding a taiahu (ceremonial spear). The shield is crowned with the crown of St. Edward , and under it are two silver fern leaves and the inscription “New Zealand” . The coat of arms is located on a white circle, above the inscription "Public Seal of Niue", and below "Niue".
