Crater Description

The nearest neighbors of the crater are Apian Crater in the west-north-west; Sacrobosco crater in the north-northeast; Wilkins Crater in the east-southeast; Goodacre Crater in the south and Poisson Crater in the west-south-west [1] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 55.7 km [2] , depth 1800 m [3] .

Pontano Crater is close to circular with a protrusion in the southern part and moderately destroyed. The shaft is flattened and blocked by many small craters, especially in the eastern part, the southern part of the shaft is almost equal to the surrounding area, in the northern part of the shaft there is a decrease. The shaft height above the surrounding area reaches 1180 m [4] , the volume of the crater is approximately 2700 km³ [4] . The bottom of the bowl is crossed, with the exception of a flat area in the northwestern part. In the center of the bowl is a rounded, smoothed central peak with a height of about 800 m [5] from which small ridges extend north and north-west. East of the central peak is another rounded peak.
