Gromyko, Mikhail

Mikhail (Mikhailo) Gromyko (Gromeka, Gromyka) (beginning of the 17th century - December 1651) - Ukrainian military and statesman of the 17th century, Belotserkovsky colonel of the Zaporizhzhya Army (1649-1651). One of the associates of Bogdan Khmelnitsky .

Biography

The representative of a well-known kind of Ukrainian - Belarusian Orthodox gentry , whose ancestor is considered Grigory Isaevich Gromyko (Gromyka), who served as clerk of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania .

He took an active part in the uprising of Khmelnitsky in 1648 - 1657 . He fought with his regiment in the battle of Korsun (1648), the Battle of Zbor (1649) and the Battle of Berestetskoy (1651).

Belonged to the supporters of moderate politics in the rebel camp, inclined to compromise with the Commonwealth .

He was the commandant of the Belotserkov fortress , participated in the battles with the Polish-Lithuanian army near the White Church in September 1651.

One of the participants in peace talks with the Commonwealth, which ended with the conclusion of the Belotserkovsky Treaty of 1651.

By decree of Khmelnitsky, he almost halved the number of registered Cossacks in the territory of the Belotserkovsky and Korsun regiments .

During the uprising of the Sich or unregistered Cossacks in Korsun , initiated by the former Korsun colonel Lukyan Mozyrei with a group of one-thinkers who disagreed with the terms of the Belotserkovsky Treaty, M. Gromyko was killed.
