- February 14 - Charles II the Lysy and Louis II the German form their alliance against their third brother, Lothar I, with the famous Strasbourg vows , pronouncing them “in romance” and “in German”. The first words that have reached us are heard in French ( Old French ). The Strasbourg Oath is a division of the Franks empire [1] .

- After the death of Alfonso II, power in Asturias is disputed by two groups. Count Nepociano, brother-in-law of Alfonso II, is supported by the feudal lords of Alava. Their opponents are supporters of Ramiro, son of Vermudo I. In the battle of Narcea, Nepociano was defeated. The new king was Ramiro I.
