Pristomerus

Pristomerus ( lat. ) - the genus of small riders - ichneumonids ( Ichneumonidae ) from the subfamily Cremastinae . About 150 species (about 30 in Africa, 15 in Madagascar) [1] .

Description

Small riders with a slender body, abdomen compressed laterally, front wing length from 2 to 8 mm, body length from 3 to 10 mm. The main color of the body is from yellow to black. The palp formula is 5: 4 (5 mandibular and 4 lower labial segments). The clypeus is separated from the face by a groove. There is a prong in the lower part of the hips. Tiridia is developed near the base of the 2nd tergite of the abdomen. Parasites of hiding caterpillars of small butterflies ( Lepidoptera ). Among the hosts there are pests of important crops: Poaceae (rice, corn), Solanaceae (potatoes, tomatoes, tobacco), Fabaceae , Rosaceae (apple tree, peach), Malvaceae (cotton).

The genus was first identified in 1836 by the British entomologist John Curtis (John Curtis, 1791-1862) [2] and revised in 2015 by South African hymenopterologists Pascal Rousse ; Natural History Department, South African Isico-Museum , Cape Town , South Africa and Simon van Noort ( Simon van Noort ; Department of Biological Sciences, University of Cape Town , Rondebosch , South Africa) [1] [3] .
