Yakov Lvovich Alpert ( born Yakov Alpert ; March 1, 1911 , Ivnica , Zhytomyr Uyezd , Volyn Province - October 5, 2010 , Boston , USA [3] ) is a Soviet and American scientist in plasma physics and radiophysics.

Biography
The son of a petty merchant. In 1928 he graduated from school, but could not enter the Polytechnic Institute due to non-proletarian origin. He worked as a carpenter, handyman at a construction site, draftsman, heat engineer.
In 1931-1934 he was a technician at the Radio Institute of the People’s Commissariat of Communications at Shabolovka. Then he worked at the institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR: Lebedev Physical Institute. Lebedev (1935-1951, dismissed as a result of the struggle against cosmopolitanism ) and the Institute of Magnetism and Radio Waves (IZMIRAN, 1952-1987, until 1974 the head of the department).
In 1939 he graduated in absentia from Moscow State University.
Member of the atomic program.
In 1987 he emigrated to the United States (he sought permission to leave since 1973, was removed from the department’s management, as this position required access to state secrets and did not automatically allow traveling abroad for 5 years after dismissal).
In the USA he lived near Boston.
Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences.
For the period 1936-2001 published 8 books in Russian and 11 in English. Including:
