Biography

Karl von Ginzel was born in 1741 [1] ; descended from the Livonian nobles [2] .

On September 20, 1756, he enlisted in the Preobrazhensky Life Guards Regiment in the bombing company of a cadet [2] .

During the Seven Years War , in 1759, while serving as a captainarmus , he was in command of the captain of the Preobrazhensky regiment of Ozerov abroad to collect monetary contributions in enemy cities and took part in the Battle of Palzig and the Battle of Frankfurt [2] .

On September 28, 1760, Karl Hristianovich von Ginzel was promoted to sergeant and on April 1, 1762 to second lieutenant, and on August 7 of the same year was renamed regimental quartermaster [2] .

On May 11, 1763, von Ginzel was released from the guard to the field regiments with the rank of prime minister and assigned to the Nizhny Novgorod Infantry Regiment [2] .

In 1765, following the order of the Empress, he was sent to Ingermanland by a detective [2] .

From 1770 to 1772 he took part in military operations in Poland [2] .

On December 5, 1771, von Ginzel was promoted to colonel [2] .

From October 19, 1772 to January 3, 1773, he served as commandant of the Bendery fortress [2] .

In the course of the Russian-Turkish war , on May 10, 1773, with 300 infantry and Zaporozhian troops, attacked the Turkish camp against Silistria and put the enemy to flight, and then participated in the battles of Turtukai , in 1774 - again with Turtukai (6 and 9 June) and under Ruschuk (June 29), where his part for six hours repelled the attacks of 8000 Turks, after which they were forced to retreat; while he was seriously wounded by a bullet in the head [2] .

In 1775, Karl Hristianovich von Ginzel made a trip from the theater of military operations to Nizhny Novgorod [2] .

On June 28, 1778, he was promoted to brigadier; on May 5, 1779, he was promoted to major general with the appointment to be attached to the Estland division [2] .

In 1780, K. H. von Ginzel was part of the Voronezh Division , in 1782—1783. again during the Estland and in 1784-1787. with the 1st division [2] .

April 21, 1787 was promoted to lieutenant-general with the appointment of the governor of Vyborg governorship. He held this position until 1793. In the lists of generals for 1794, he no longer appears [2] .

Karl Hristianovich von Ginzel, among other awards, was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 2nd degree [2] .
