Born September 19, 1921 in the city of Grand Ledge , Michigan.
As a child, she studied music, wanting to become a pianist, but at the age of seventeen she decided to study painting. She studied at the American Academy of Arts in Chicago and privately with Arnold E. Turtle (1892-1954). Becoming a professional artist, became a member of the Chicago Galleries Association and was elected in 1965 a member of the Royal Society of Arts .
In the early 1950s, Bendell moved to Longboat Key , Florida , where she opened an art school with her husband, George Burrows . Then in 1983 she moved to NambΓ© Pueblo , New Mexico ( 20 miles from Santa Fe ), where she studied and taught painting. From 1993 until her death, she was engaged only in painting.
She died on May 18, 2003 . Her son and student David Hyams is also an artist.
