Eyalet Damascus ( Ottoman. ایالت شام; Eyālet-i Šām ) [1] - Eyalet in the Ottoman Empire . The area of the ejalet in the 19th century is 51,900 km 2 [2] .

Eyalet was formed after the liberation of Damascus from the Mamluks in 1516 [3] . Zhanberdi al-Ghazali , a traitor to the Mamluks, became the first ruler of Damascus [4] .
Damascus Eyale was one of the first Ottoman provinces to turn into a vilayet after the administrative reform of 1865 . In 1867, Eyale Damascus was transformed into Damascus vilayet.
