Biography
Born June 26, 1970 in Strasbourg, France. He studied theology and philosophy at the University of Strasbourg and the Higher Theological Seminary of the Archdiocese of Strasbourg . From 1991 to 1994, he taught at the French Catholic University Sapientia in Osaka , Japan. In 1996, he received a master's degree in fundamental theology. In 1997 he joined the Catholic missionary congregation "Paris Society of Foreign Missions" and in the same year was ordained a deacon. In 1998 he defended his thesis for the doctoral degree. Then in 1998 he studied biblical studies at the Paris Catholic Institute . On June 28, 1998, he was ordained a priest to serve in the Paris Society of Foreign Missions and went on a mission to Cambodia.
From 1998 to 2001, he studied the Khmer language and served as chaplain in Kampot. From 2003 to 2005 he taught church history at the Catholic Seminary in Phnom Penh. In 2003, he founded the Catholic kindergarten and the “St. Francis School Complex Takeo ”and in 2006 - the charity center“ John Paul II Center for Life ”for working with AIDS patients .
On December 24, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Olivier Schmittheusler the titular bishop of Katabum Castra and the auxiliary bishop of the apostolic vicar of Phnom Penh [2] . On March 20, 2010, Phnom Penh ordained Olivier Schmitthäusler to the bishop [3] , which was performed by the titular bishop of Altava and the ordinator of the Apostolic Vicariate of Phnom Penh, accompanied by the Apostolic Nuncio in India , the archbishopric archbishopric of the Archdiocese Temizonium Christian Georg Kratz.
In 2009, he founded the Higher Institute of Saint Paul - Computers et Agriculture in Takeo Province.
On October 1, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI, after the resignation of Emil Destombe, appointed Olivier Schmittkhoisler as Apostolic Vicar of Phnom Penh.
