Hiroshi Izumi ( Japanese 泉 п , June 22, 1982 , Oma ) is a Japanese middle-class judoka who has been playing for the Japanese national team throughout the 2000s. Silver medalist of the Athens Summer Olympics, world champion, Asian champion, Asian champion, East Asian champion, Summer Universiade champion in Daegu, winner of many tournaments of national and international importance. Also, in the period of 2009-2011 he performed in mixed-mode fights , was a contender for the Dream Light Heavyweight title.

Biography
Hiroshi Izumi was born on June 22, 1982 in the Oma village of Aomori Prefecture . Grew up in a fishing family, his father, despite his advanced age, is still engaged in the fishing of bluefin tuna on the Simokita Peninsula [1] .
Judo
As a student, in 2003, Izumi performed at the Universiade in Daegu , where he won the middleweight title. Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens - he defeated all rivals, including the strong Belarusian Sergey Kukharenko , on the way to the finals, but was defeated by Georgian Zurab Zviadauri in the decisive match and was forced to be content with the Olympic silver a medal. In addition, this season he visited the Asian Championships in Alma-Ata, from where he brought the bronze dignity award, won in the middle weight category - in the semifinals he lost to the representative of Uzbekistan Vyacheslav Pereteyko [1] .
After the Athens Olympics, Izumi remained in the main squad of the judoka team in Japan and continued to take part in major international tournaments. So, in 2005, he spoke at the World Cup in Cairo, where he defeated all opponents in middleweight and thereby won a gold medal. A year later, in his weight division, he was the best at the Asian Games in Doha, a year later he won gold at the East Asian Judo Championship in Shenzhen [2] .
In 2008, Hiroshi Izumi won the Asian Championships in Jeju and, being one of the leaders of the Japanese national team, successfully qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing , where, however, he could not become one of the prize winners, he lost to Andrei in his second match Kazusyonka and took the final seventeenth place [3] [4] [5] . Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end his career as a judoka, giving way to young Japanese wrestlers in the national team [6] .
Mixed Martial Arts
In September 2009, Izumi debuted in mixed martial arts, signing a contract with the Japanese organization World Victory Road . In the first duel by the rules of MMA, he met kickboxer from New Zealand Anz Nansen, using his percussion skills he severely beat the Japanese, who, to the surprise of the fans, did not use the judo technique and was involved in an exchange of blows. Thus, in the first match he was defeated by technical knockout in the first round [7] [8] [9] .
In the second match, Izumi defeated professional wrestler Katsuyuri Shibatu by unanimous decision, inflicted many accurate blows on him, confidently controlled the situation in the stalls, especially in the second half of the last round. The fight was especially notable for the fact that Izumi's father promised to take his son from MMA back to judo if he loses again [10] .
In the next three matches, held in 2010, Hiroshi Izumi was again the best, including taking the upper hand over Pride veteran Ikuhisa Minova , and this is the main achievement in his fighting career [11] [12] . In 2011, he was awarded the right to challenge the Dream title in the light heavyweight category, but lost by technical knockout to the current champion Dutchman Geghard Musashi [13] . Since then, he no longer took part in battles according to mixed rules [14] .
