Cherevatova, Elena Arkadevna

Yelena Arkadyevna Cherevatova-Derevenko (nee Tomareva ; March 17, 1970 , Salsk ) - Ukrainian rower-canoeist , played for the Ukrainian team in the first half of the 2000s. Bronze medalist at the Athens Summer Olympics, silver medalist at the World Championships, European champion, winner of many regattas of national and international importance.

Biography

Born on March 17, 1970 in the city of Salsk, Rostov Region of the RSFSR . She began to actively engage in rowing from early childhood, was trained in Vinnitsa in sports societies "Dynamo" and "Spartak"

Thanks to a series of successful performances, she got into the main team of the Ukrainian national team and won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney - in the program of four on five hundred meters she reached the final and showed the fifth result in the decisive race, a little short of reaching the prize positions.

She achieved her first serious success at an adult international level in 2003 when she visited the world championship in American Gainesville, from which she brought the silver dignity award won in the four-seater kayak race at a distance of 1000 meters. A year later, she performed at the European Championships in Poznan, Poland, where she won the four in five meters.

Being among the leaders of the rowing team of Ukraine, Cherevatova successfully qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens - as part of a four-seater crew, which also included rowers Inna Osipenko , Anna Balabanova and Tatyana Semykina , won a bronze medal at five hundred meters - in the final race she was bypassed only teams from Germany and Hungary. Soon after the end of these competitions, she decided to end her career as a professional athlete, giving way to the team of young Ukrainian rowers.
