Shuttle traffic is a method of organizing the movement of passenger rail vehicles ( subway , tram ), in which the same train moves in both directions along the same route, without turning at the end points.
Requires an appropriate rolling stock capable of moving in both directions and, as a rule, having doors on both sides of the car.
As a rule, it is used on lightly loaded routes, or in a period of restricted movement due to repairs or reconstruction.
It was used, for example, until June 23, 2007 on the Dzerzhinsk line of the Novosibirsk Metro , as well as in the Petersburg Metro on an isolated part of the first line during the final stage of connecting the metro line in the erosion area. Also, in the Petersburg metro, the movement of two shuttle trains was carried out in the first section of the Zvenigorod — Volkovskaya — fifth line before the opening of the Spasskaya station.
At the moment, 2 shuttle trains temporarily serve the Baku Metro . Both (one since 1993, the second since 2008) operate on two parallel single-track sections of the Jabbarly - Khatai haul of line 2.
In the Kiev Metro shuttle trains took place during the construction of the Teatralnaya station in the summer of 1987 , in the first years of operation of the Kurenivsko-Krasnoarmeyskaya and Syretsko-Pecherskaya lines, and from October 25, 2012 to November 6, 2013, the first way between the stations Center "-" Hippodrome .
In connection with the opening of the “ Business Center ” station in the Moscow Metro , shuttle traffic was organized between the “ Victory Park ” and “ Business Center ” stations. Now, there is no shuttle traffic on the Solntsevskaya line, since the Solntsevskaya line is extended to Rasskazovka stations and the Solntsevskaya line were temporarily connected to the Big Circle.
