Originally called Artillery Lane , as well as parallel Artillery Street . This name appeared at the alley in the 1830s and was due to the fact that in house 6 there were barracks of the Officer Artillery School of Shooting.
In Direct Lane was renamed on April 23, 1923 at the same time as Sapernaya Street was renamed into Red Artillery Street [1] .

On the odd side, the numbering goes in the opposite direction. When moving from Radishchev Street, first goes House No. 3 (at the corner from Radishchev, 1972), then - No. 1 (1961).
