Biography
The second son of Ann-Auguste de Montmorency and Catherine Felicite du Belle.
He entered the service on March 7, 1745 as a musketeer. In the campaign of that year, he participated in the battle of Fontenoy , the sieges of Tournai , Oudenaard , Dendermond and Ata .
Since April 27, 1746, captain of the Limousin Infantry Regiment, commanded a company at the Battle of Roca ; in 1747 he fought in Holland, participated in the siege and capture of Bergen op Zoom .
From January 1, 1748, colonel of the infantry regiment of Ile de France, commanded him in the Italian army until the end of the war, and in 1756-1760 during the coastal defense. January 7, 1759 received from the hands of the king the Order of St. Louis .
February 20, 1761 promoted to brigadier and assigned to command the Limousin Infantry Regiment, with which he acted in Germany in 1761-1762. He distinguished himself in these campaigns and was promoted to camp marshal on July 25, 1762. In December, he was dismissed from command of the regiment.
December 15, 1781 promoted to lieutenant general of the king’s armies.
He became the owner of the majorate in Spain and the dignity of the grandee of Spain, which belonged to the princes von Tserclas-Tilly.
He died in exile.
