The 2001 census of Ukraine was the first and so far the only (as of 2019 ) census of the population of independent Ukraine . Due to economic, political and social problems, Ukraine is one of the few CIS countries with the most rare and irregular population censuses, second only to Uzbekistan , where population censuses have not been carried out since the collapse of the USSR .
