Biography

He studied at the naval school (graduated in 1937), at the school of submariners, at the school of divers, at the British school of anti-submarine warfare, at the school of the Navy of Argentina (he graduated in 1949) and at the British school for the protection and rescue of ports. He was the director of the naval lyceum. In 1949 he participated in one of the first Argentine expeditions to Antarctica . He commanded the minesweeper " Komodoro Pi ", the submarine " Santa Fe " and the frigate " Hercules ".

Since 1951, teaching at naval colleges. Arrested and imprisoned for anti-government activities. In September 1955, he took part in a military coup, as a result of which President H. D. Peron was overthrown and an end to the era of “ hustisialism . In 1955-1958 he headed the personal headquarters of the country's president Pedro Aramburu .

In 1958, he retired from the Navy with the rank of captain. He was later director of the newspapers Correo de la Tarde, Leer para Creer, and Correo de la Semana, reflecting the views of the conservative army. In 1970 - 1972 - Minister of Social Security and Society Assistance in the Governments of Presidents Roberto Levingston and Alejandro Lanusse . His policy of abolishing social benefits caused discontent among unions and a series of strikes. In 1986 - 1987, he was Secretary of State for Tourism in the government of President Raul Alfonsin .

In 1973, he was a presidential candidate from the conservative political bloc Federalist People’s Union, gained 12.19% of the vote and took 3rd place. In 1983, he was a candidate for president from the coalition of right-wing parties the Federal Alliance, gained 0.4% of the vote and took 9th place. Several times unsuccessfully ran for parliament.

In 1973 he participated in the creation of a single Federal Party from various provincial conservative parties and headed it. In 1976, he fully supported the coup [1] .

In 1974, he returned to journalism, heading the journal Respuesta Argentina, and in 1975 , again Correo de la Semana, but began to criticize the government, but the newspaper was closed in 1977 . In 1981 - 1988 he re-edited Correo de la Tarde.

He died of a stroke after surgery for lymphoma .

The first wife - Esther Kanepa Devoto (in 1943-1977), the second wife - Kristina Ruiz (since 1985), had three sons and a daughter in her first marriage.
