Shigabutdin Marjani Institute of History

The Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan was created by Decree of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan M. Sh. Shaimiev (No. VII-354 of June 14, 1996) on the basis of the departments of history, ethnography, archeology, the history of social thought and Islamic studies of the Institute of Language, Literature and History named after G. Ibragimova in order to stimulate scientific research in the history of Tatarstan and the Tatar people, the training of highly qualified personnel.

On February 17, 1997, by the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Institute received legal status and an approved staffing table. The Director of the Institute was approved by Rafael Sibgatovich Hakimov. In February 2002, in order to perpetuate the memory of an outstanding Tatar scholar, enlightener, religious and public figure, the Institute of History was named after Shigabutdin Marjani .

In 2014, by the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tajikistan (dated October 16, 2014 No. 763), the functions and powers of the founder of the Institute of History named after S. Marjani was transferred to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan, and the scientific and methodological management of the activity was transferred to the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan . Scientific research of the Institute of History. Sh. Mardzhani was largely a continuation of the traditions of the founders of national historical science - Shigabutdin Mardzhani, Kayum Nasyri , Riza Fakhretdin , Khasan-Gata Gabyashi , Khadi Atlasi , Gaziz Gubaidullin and several other scholars of the XIX - early XX centuries.

The Institute is the founder of the Russian Islamic University , as well as the basic institution of the Presidential Heraldic Council. In 2014, on the basis of the National Center for Archeological Research of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Museum of Archeology of the Republic of Tatarstan, a separate division of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan was created. A. Kh. Halikova.

Since 2014, the Institute of History. S. Marjani together with the Institute of Language, Literature and History named after G. Ibragimova , in the framework of the development by the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan of the common problem “Archeology of Tatarstan: conservation, history of study, museumification”, takes an active part in the creation of a museum of Turkic-Tatar writing in Bolgar ^{[1] [2]} .

In 2014, the Crimean Scientific Center of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan was established in Bakhchisarai , the purpose of which is to study and preserve the heritage of Crimean Tatars and other peoples of the Republic of Crimea, search for archival materials, expand archaeological research, publish fundamental works on the history and culture of Crimea. In 2015, the North-West Scientific Center named after L. N. Gumilyova Institute of History, Academy of Sciences of the RT.

In 2016, the 7-volume academic publication "History of the Tatars from ancient times", prepared by employees of the Institute of History named after S. Mardzhani (with the involvement of Russian and foreign scientists), was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan in the field of science and technology ^{[3] [4]} .

Since 1996, the director of the Institute is a doctor of historical sciences, a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rafail Sibgatovich Khakimov.
