1984 European Curling Championship

The 1984 European Curling Championship was held in the city of Morzin ( France ) from December 9 to 14, 1984 for both men's and women's teams. 14 men's and 14 women's teams took part in the men's and women's tournaments [1] .

In the men's tournament, the Swiss team became the European champion (for the 5th time in its history), having won the Scotland team in the final; the third place was taken by the Scotland team [2] .

In the women's tournament, the German team became the European champion (for the first time in its history), defeating the Swedish team in the final; the third place was taken by the Swiss team [3] .

Teams at the group stage were divided into two groups - A and B. In the playoffs came out the two best teams from each group. The rest of the teams that ranked below the second in the groups played with the team that took the same place in the other group, the match for the place in the final classification.

Tie Breaks

Since in Group A the teams of Switzerland, England and Sweden scored the same number of victories, they played the following games for reaching the playoffs according to the following formula:

  • The winner of the first game goes to the game with the third team for reaching the playoffs from 2nd place in the group;
  • The loser in the first game takes the 4th place in the group, the loser in the second game - the 3rd.

  Switzerland 8 - 3 Sweden  

  Switzerland 10 - 2 England  

As a result of tiebreaks, the Swiss team went into the playoffs from 2nd place, England won the 3rd place in the group and entered the classification match with the Danish team for the total 5th place, the Swedish team won the 4th place in group and entered the classification match with the Finnish national team for the overall 7th place.

For the 9th place:   Italy 11 - 3 Netherlands
