Short-eyed violet

Short-eyed violet [2] ( lat. Viola brachyceras ) is a species of dicotyledonous plants of the Violet genus ( Viola ) of the Violaceae family. First described by the Russian-Ukrainian botanist Nikolai Stepanovich Turchaninov in 1842 [3] [4] .

Distribution and habitat

Known from China , Russia and Mongolia [6] .

It grows along river banks and in larch forests [6] .

Botanical description

Perennial stemless herb 6–10 cm tall [6] .

Leaves are basal, naked, rounded-heart-shaped, several per plant [6] .

The flowers are white or light purple, oblong-obovate [6] .

The fruit is a box covered with dark brown spots [6] .

It flowers in May and June, bears fruit from July to September [6] .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20 [7] [6] .

Environmental situation

The violet short-mouthed is listed in the Red Books of the Khabarovsk Territory and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area (Russia) [2] .
