1983 European Curling Championship

The 1983 European Curling Championship was held in Vasteras ( Sweden ) from December 4 to 10 for both men's and women's teams. The men's and women's tournaments were attended by 14 men's and 14 women's teams. [one]

In the men's tournament, the European team became (for the 4th time in its history) the Swiss team , defeating the Norwegian team in the final; Scotland took third place. [2]

In the women's tournament, the European team became (for the 6th time in its history) the Swedish team , defeating the Norwegian team in the final; Switzerland took third place. [3]

The teams at the group stage were divided into two groups - A and B. In the playoffs, two best teams from each group came out. The rest of the teams that took places in the groups below the second played with the team that took the same place in another group, a match for a place in the final classification.

Tie-breaks

Since the teams of France, Norway and Sweden scored the same number of victories in group A, games were held between them for reaching the playoffs according to the following formula:

  • The winner of the first game enters the playoffs from the 1st place in the group;
  • The loser in the first game and the third team play the 2nd place for access to the playoffs.

  Norway 6 - 4 Sweden  

  Sweden 4 - 3 France  

As a result of tie-breaks, the Norwegian national team got into the playoffs from 1st place, the Swedish national team from 2nd place, the French national team took 3rd place in the group and entered the classification match with the Netherlands national team for the overall 5th place.
