Lighthouse History
The first lighthouse appeared on the island in 1808. It was a white brick building about five meters high with a lantern on top. In 1866, the lantern was modernized, and the height of the lighthouse increased to eight meters. The lantern was equipped with a third-class lens system and a clockwork that turned an oil lamp with two wicks, which gave a reddish light. At the beginning of the 20th century, a fog horn was installed on the opposite end of the island from the lighthouse. Next to the lighthouse was a wooden house in which the caretaker and his family lived.
In 1945, a new lighthouse was erected on the island to replace the former, which continues to this day. Its focal plane is located at an altitude of 53 meters above sea level. The lighthouse gives two white flashes every 10 seconds. [one]
