Club

Sacketti started his playing career in the second Italian league for the Libertas Asti club. In 1976, Romeo moved to the club from Bologna SC Giro, and in the very first season, together with the team, he won first place in League A2 and increased to the top Italian division. From 1979 to 1984, Sacchetti spent in Turin “Oksilium Pallakanestra”, from where he joined the titled Varese . Here he played for eight seasons, but was forced to end his career because of the severe injury of the Achilles tendon , received in one of the matches of the national championship.

Team

The first major tournament in Sacchetti’s career was the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow . In the first two rounds of the Italian basketball player went to the site in 6 out of 8 matches, picking up an average of 8.3 points per game. In the final match against the national team of Yugoslavia, Sakchetti spent 9 minutes on the court, during which he managed to score only 2 points. According to the results of the match, the Italian team lost with a score of 77:86 and became the silver medalist of the Olympic Games.

In 1983, Sacchetti won two international awards at once, becoming the champion of Europe and the silver medalist of the Mediterranean Games . At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles , the Italians confidently made their way into the playoffs, but there they unexpectedly lost to the Canadian team. Having won then two meetings of the classification round, the Italian team won the 5th place in the basketball tournament. At the Games, Sacchetti held 8 meetings in which, on average, scored 10.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. In 1985, Romeo won his second prize at the European Championships, winning bronze at the European Championships with the national team. In 1986, Sacchetti took part in his first World Championship , where he finished 6th place in the Italian national team.

Coaching

A few years after the completion of his playing career, Sacchetti began his coaching job. For a long time, an Italian specialist coached clubs from the lower Italian leagues. In the 2007/2008 season, Sacchetti coached the team of the A series Orlandina Basket. Since 2009, Sacchetti has headed Dinamo Sassari . In the first season, Romeo was able to bring the club to the top division. At the end of 2012, Sacchetti was recognized as the best coach of the A series. Dynamo achieved major successes under the leadership of Sacchetti in the 2014/2015 season, when the club scored a golden double, winning the championship and Italian Cup.
