Sports Biography

In 1976, Abreu participated in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal . Julio became one of the four representatives of Paraguay at these Games. At the opening ceremony, Abreu was entrusted with carrying the flag of Paraguay. In Montreal, Abreu performed in three disciplines of the swimming program. On July 18, a Paraguayan swimmer took part in a 200-meter butterfly competition. At the preliminary stage, Emilio showed the 8th result in his swim and dropped out of the further struggle. On July 24, preliminary races took place at a distance of 200 meters breaststroke. In the first round, the Paraguayan became 6th, showing a time of 2: 35.22, which did not allow him to fight for medals. The very next day, Abreu competed in the integrated 400-meter competition. Here, Julio became the 5th in his race, ahead of two swimmers from Hungary and Mexico, but as well as at the previous two distances, Abreu remained below the finalists.
